CAIRO / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves reached an estimated $55.0723 billion at the end of June 2026. This figure broke the $55 billion mark for the first time and set a new record high. The Central Bank of Egypt announced the data on July 8. Reserves were $53.1342 billion at the close of May, with a monthly growth of approximately $1.94 billion, or nearly 3.6%, marking June as the strongest month in the first half of the year.

Egypt started 2026 with net international reserves of $51.4516 billion at the end of December. The reserves increased to $52.5938 billion in January, then grew to $52.7455 billion in February and $52.8306 billion in March. By April, reserves reached $53.0092 billion, and in May they stood at $53.1342 billion. The June figure continues the upward trend observed during the first half of 2026.
The total for June was approximately $3.62 billion higher than the December 2025 level, representing a growth of just over 7% in the first half of the year. In January, the Central Bank of Egypt stated that reserves covered about 6.3 months of merchandise imports. The June report did not include a new import coverage estimate nor a detailed explanation of the factors driving the monthly increase.
June’s rise pushes reserves to new record
Egypt also experienced robust growth in remittance inflows during the current fiscal year. From July 2025 through April 2026, remittance receipts totaled $39.2 billion, up from $29.4 billion during the same period a year earlier. April’s inflows alone reached about $4.3 billion, compared to roughly $3 billion in April 2025. Official statements did not explicitly connect these remittance figures to the June increase in foreign reserves.
The country’s current account deficit widened to $5.1 billion in the January-March 2026 quarter, compared to $2.3 billion in the same quarter of the previous year. Higher remittances, tourism revenue, and Suez Canal income partially offset a larger merchandise trade deficit. Net foreign direct investment inflows for the quarter totaled $3.7 billion, slightly below the $3.8 billion recorded a year earlier.
External data support the reserve milestone
The International Monetary Fund reached a staff-level agreement with Egyptian authorities on June 29. This agreement covered the seventh review of Egypt’s economic program and a separate sustainability facility review. The IMF noted that gross international reserves remained broadly stable at the end of March. The June reserve figure reflects the outcomes of those review discussions and provides the latest official measure of Egypt’s net international reserves.
Egypt concluded the first half of 2026 with reserves surpassing all previous monthly levels reported by monetary authorities. The June total was nearly $2 billion higher than May’s figure and over $3.6 billion above the December 2025 reading. Steady growth was observed from January through May, culminating in a larger increase in June. The provisional month-end figure of $55.0723 billion marks a new record high.
