CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – As of the end of August 2026, Egypt’s international reserves have climbed to an all-time high of $57.2145 billion. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this preliminary figure on September 7. At the close of July, reserves stood at $56.2939 billion, marking an increase of approximately $920.6 million, or 1.6%. This latest total signifies Egypt’s first official reserve figure surpassing the $57 billion mark.

The August update continues a consistent upward trend observed throughout 2026. Reserves began the year at $52.5938 billion in January, then grew to $52.7455 billion in February, and reached $52.8306 billion in March. April saw a rise to $53.0092 billion, followed by $53.1342 billion in May. By August, the reserves had increased by nearly $4.62 billion from January and approximately $5.76 billion from the end of December 2025.
Mid-year growth accelerated noticeably. From $53.1342 billion in May, reserves increased to $55.0723 billion in June, then further climbed to $56.2939 billion in July, culminating in the August record. These three months contributed over $4 billion to the total reserves. When compared to August 2025, the latest figure is roughly $7.96 billion higher, representing a yearly growth rate of approximately 16.2%.
Remittances from Egyptians Abroad Enhance Foreign Currency Reserves
During the 2025/2026 fiscal year, remittances sent by Egyptians working overseas also achieved a record high. The Central Bank of Egypt stated that these inflows totaled about $47.3 billion, up from about $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year, a 29.6% increase. In June alone, remittances reached roughly $4.2 billion, a 15.6% rise compared to approximately $3.6 billion in June 2025.
Egypt’s latest balance of payments figures encompass the first nine months of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The overall balance recorded a deficit of $1.8 billion from July through March, while the capital and financial account posted net inflows of $9.9 billion. Conversely, the current account showed a deficit of $14.6 billion. These data provide the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external financial position before the August reserve update.
Continued Monthly Reserve Growth Maintained in 2026
The series of monthly reserve records has reached successive highs throughout the year. Reserves crossed the $55 billion mark in June, then surpassed $56 billion in July, with August marking the first reading over $57 billion. Egypt has now recorded reserve totals above $55 billion for three consecutive month-ends. The August figure is more than 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion documented at the close of December 2025.
These latest statistics place Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest recorded level and continue an unbroken monthly increase since the beginning of 2026. From January through August, each month’s reserve total was higher than the previous month. Although the August figure remains provisional under the central bank’s reporting standards, the data clearly show a rising trend in Egypt’s reserve holdings during the first eight months of the year.
