ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met in Abu Dhabi on Sunday with Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, boosting economic collaboration, and addressing regional developments across the Middle East. The leaders explored ways to deepen the partnership between the UAE and Jordan and also touched on regional security, stability, and the pursuit of durable peace. This meeting coincided with King Abdullah’s official visit to the UAE.

Economic cooperation was a core subject of the talks. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah discussed joint efforts in trade, investment, and development, especially in light of the UAE-Jordan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. This agreement provides both nations with a broader framework for commercial and investment relations. The leaders also examined other cooperation areas aligned with their respective national development goals. The UAE and Jordan share strong political ties and frequently consult on economic and regional issues.

Representing Jordan were Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. Senior officials from the UAE also participated, including Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan was also present. Their participation underscored the importance of political, economic, and foreign policy coordination between the two countries at the highest levels.

    Trade Agreement Solidifies Economic Ties

The comprehensive economic partnership between the UAE and Jordan was signed on October 6, 2024, and came into effect on May 15, 2025. It marked the UAE’s first such agreement with an Arab nation. The pact covers over 98% of tariff lines and establishes uniform rules for goods and services. Additionally, it addresses investment protocols, customs procedures, digital commerce, and cooperation among small and medium-sized enterprises.

This trade arrangement offers preferential treatment for goods that meet the specified rules of origin and technical standards. Over 99.5% of the value of UAE exports to Jordan benefits from this liberalization. It also provides mechanisms to facilitate customs cooperation and promote investment, including the creation of committees and official channels to monitor implementation. Both governments view this agreement as a key pillar for expanding bilateral economic relations.

Regional Security and Political Matters Discussed

Regional issues played a significant role in the Abu Dhabi meeting. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah exchanged views on recent developments affecting the Middle East. They emphasized the importance of ongoing UAE-Jordan coordination on security and stability matters. Both leaders reaffirmed their support for initiatives aimed at establishing lasting peace throughout the region. Their discussions reflected the consistent political dialogue maintained between Abu Dhabi and Amman concerning regional affairs.

Following the talks, King Abdullah concluded his UAE visit and left Abu Dhabi later that day. Sheikh Mohamed accompanied him during departure, along with senior UAE officials. The meeting successfully combined bilateral economic objectives with regional security and political discussions, highlighting the role of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in fostering UAE-Jordan relations. The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to review ongoing cooperation and ensure direct communication at the leadership and senior official levels.
