EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – A five-year wheat supply contract valued at up to US$500 million has been activated between the UAE and Egypt. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading is responsible for delivering imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities under this deal. The financing for these purchases is facilitated through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This agreement formalizes a framework that was established in 2023 and outlines the terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.

The signing took place on Aug. 26, 2026, at the headquarters of Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers in El Alamein. In attendance was Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, representing GASC as its chairman. Also present was Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra. Details regarding the volume of wheat covered by this agreement, as well as the delivery schedules, shipment origins, annual purchase targets, or pricing mechanisms for individual transactions, were not disclosed by officials.
This arrangement builds upon a financing initiative announced by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that framework, ADEX provided US$100 million in revolving credit for wheat and other critical commodity imports. The structure allowed for annual renewal over five years, potentially totaling up to US$500 million. Ministries of finance and international cooperation from Egypt collaborated with GASC in establishing this initial framework. The current agreement specifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat utilizing that pre-existing financing setup.
Implementation of the five-year framework in wheat supply operations
ADEX functions as the export-financing division of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting purchases tied to UAE exporters. Its 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities involved wheat and other essential commodities supplied through Al Dahra. The revolving credit structure permitted annual renewal during the five-year period. Instead of creating a new US$500 million facility, the new supply agreement provides a commercial framework for GASC to buy imported wheat from Al Dahra using the financing already arranged via ADEX.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has operated farms in Egypt, including sites in Toshka and East Oweinat. The company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in Egypt in 2023. Over the past three years, it supplied more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government. At that time, Al Dahra indicated that about 85% of its Egyptian farm output reached the local market. Currently, the company manages an agricultural platform serving over 40 markets worldwide.
Wheat imports continue to depend on ADEX financing support
The signed agreement in El Alamein pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC, although Al Dahra also produces crops domestically within Egypt. In 2023, the company identified itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector wheat and corn producer. Therefore, this new deal relates to a separate import pathway supported by UAE export financing. GASC remains the official Egyptian entity responsible for procurement under this arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has disclosed the total tonnage of wheat deliveries covered under the five-year contract.
The total program value remains capped at US$500 million over five years, aligned with the framework established in 2023. No shipment schedule or list of supplying countries has been announced by Al Dahra or GASC. Additionally, the pricing formula for individual transactions has not been revealed. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the agreement solidifies the link between Al Dahra’s wheat supplies and GASC through the existing ADEX financing program, marking the operational phase of this five-year initiative.
