CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing advancements in camera technology, battery performance, and processing capabilities. Both models are powered by the new A20 Pro chip and incorporate a redesigned vapor chamber to maintain optimal performance under load. Additionally, Apple has reduced the size of Dynamic Island and added new camera controls tailored for professional users. Preorders commence on September 12, while the devices will go on sale starting September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

A major update to the camera system includes a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera equipped with a variable aperture. The lens features six internal blades, enabling it to shift between four aperture settings. Users can fine-tune aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. An exposure histogram is also available to display lighting levels while framing a scene. The new imaging system introduces additional texture and grain controls to Photographic Styles, and video shooters can apply Cinematic effects post-capture.

Apple is also rolling out Reference Image, a feature designed for users who need to verify whether a photo has been edited or altered. This opt-in functionality captures signed sensor data at the moment a picture is taken in Reference mode. The private Cloud Compute then processes this data into a reference image for comparison within the Photos app. Apple has announced plans to support the SynthID standard via a software update later this year. Image metadata will serve as another method to identify content created or modified by AI.

The A20 Pro chip, fabricated using a 2-nanometer process, combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims that the GPU offers up to 40% faster performance than the A19 Pro. The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores dedicated to AI tasks. A new thermal architecture positions the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber, enabling the system to deliver up to 40% higher sustained performance compared to the previous generation.

Battery capacity is also improved, especially on models that rely solely on eSIM. Apple states that the iPhone 18 Pro can support up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours under the same test conditions. The Pro model can reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. Versions with only eSIM support will be available in markets including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the region.

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI to the new Pro series

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the latest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices set to English. Apple plans to add support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. The assistant can leverage data from messages, emails, and photos when users seek assistance. It also responds to on-screen content and interacts with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence merges on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud-based functions.

Both models will be available in colors including burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is priced from $1,299. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail sales starting September 18 in the initial markets. An additional 20 countries and regions will receive the iPhone 18 Pro lineup beginning September 25.
